Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains clearly what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it — including how we use data for advertising purposes.
1. Who We Are
FluentUp is an English language learning application. When this policy refers to "FluentUp", "we", "us" or "our", it means the FluentUp service and its operators.
For privacy questions, use the contact form on our contact page.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us:
- Account information: Your email address and password when you create an account.
- Profile data: Your display name and language learning preferences.
- Learning data: Lesson progress, XP, streaks, exercise results, and time spent learning.
We also collect information automatically:
- Usage data: Which lessons you complete, how long you spend in the app, and features you use.
- Device information: Device type, operating system, and app version.
- Advertising identifier: With your permission on iOS, we may access your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) to serve you relevant ads and measure ad performance.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the FluentUp service.
- To personalise your learning experience and track your progress.
- To communicate with you about your account or the service.
- To ensure the security and integrity of the platform.
- To analyse how the app is used in aggregate (anonymised) form.
- To serve advertisements through our advertising partners, which may include personalised ads based on your interests and activity.
4. Advertising and Tracking
FluentUp is free to use and is supported by advertising. We use Google AdMob to display ads within the app. AdMob may collect and use data to deliver personalised advertising.
On iOS: We request your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework before accessing your advertising identifier. You can choose to allow or deny tracking when prompted. If you deny, you will still see ads, but they will not be personalised based on activity across other apps and websites.
Data used for tracking may include:
- Device advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, GAID on Android)
- Coarse location data (country/region derived from IP address)
- App usage and interaction data for ad measurement and analytics
Google's data practices are governed by the Google Privacy Policy. You can opt out of personalised advertising through your device settings at any time:
- iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking — disable "Allow Apps to Request to Track".
- Android: Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID.
5. How We Store and Protect Your Data
Your data is stored securely on our servers. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. We use HTTPS encryption for all data in transit.
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is permanently removed within 30 days.
6. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:
- Advertising partners: Google AdMob receives data necessary to serve and measure ads (see Section 4 above).
- Service providers: Hosting and infrastructure providers necessary to operate the service.
- Legal requirements: If required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Opt out of personalised advertising (see Section 4).
- Export your learning data.
To exercise any of these rights, use the contact form on our contact page.
8. Children's Privacy
FluentUp is suitable for users aged 4 and above. Users under 13 should use the app with parental guidance and consent. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or by a notice within the app. Your continued use of FluentUp after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
